The current generation Mercedes-Benz SL-Class has been overshadowed bt the far more dynamic (not to mention cooler) Mercedes-AMG GT since its arrival. This trend began with the AMG GT’s immediate predecessor, the SLS AMG, but it wasn’t always like this.
Before either of those two AMG-built dream machines hit the road, the SL-Class was the top dog, especially the in AMG guise. And there was one particular standout among them, the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series, built from 2008-2011.
Just 350 examples were built with 175 sent to the US. And now one of them is up for sale on Bring A Trailer. This 2009 SL65 AMG Black Series, like all others, is powered by a hand-built twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 with 661 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. Just to compare, today’s most powerful AMG GT is the GT R, which has a total of 577 hp and 516 lb-ft of twist. A Black Series variant is expected in the near future.
